The one reason that I really like his design, is that his work always fullfill the requirement of the site. Of course that it is always necessary to achieve the requirement of the customer, but not only the customer's interest, it also achieves audience's interest. Another reason is that these interests are achieved really clear way instead of the high tech complexity.
The site 'Stardust' is the one of Joshua's work. This site is a advertisement company [Stardust]'s portfolio site. It contains their recent news, previous works, contact information and client's service.
Simple, black and white. but not boring. because of variety colours of its contents. As their main projects are video clips, site layout is emphasing video part. Video is the biggest part of the site. So the first thing that audience can see in the site is a video. Video is the only thing that is moving in the page. Joshua didn't use any other animated object except the video to make audience more concentrate on it. The only animated object is a small black menu box and it also has minimum animation such as change the background of the box.
Black and white colours, minimum amount of animation, colourful video contents. These all features make this site fullfill both company and audience's interests. The original objective of portfolio is to show their work. It attracts people to look around the actual video contents rather than explore useless flash animation in site.
Even though it is a full flash site. I think, it can be achieved similar effect by javascript. As it doesn't have much collapsed layers or objects. I'm not sure that the extending frame(main body form) can be achieved too or not.
Beside, I really like the main video in first page. I think it summarise all of their previous work. It would be because it is a video, but it looks really dynamic and really great to attract people to look. different colours and keep moving something. It really shows what this homepage related to.
