Finally, semester 2. DONE.

Frankly, I was kind of lazy to do all the works in web art and design. of course not only for web art but for all other electives and either my design practice..haha;;
But personally, I really satisfy with my final web-site. New experience (photography), new technique(automerge), new friends (who are from design computing XD).

This course gave me some different aspects of web-design for me. I think that I was kind of person who thought about web-design with too much technical issues instead of athetics and impression. It was good opportunity to study web-design with art based.

Final 2 - different levels and views

level1 view. It was quite amazing for me too that this panorama image could gives so good perspective impression of space although as 2D pictures. I was kind of proud to achieve this good panoramic image with my own photography skill T-T. hah~

I didn't expect to use people in photo to navigator to link to other flashes. But it could give me some better expression of space such as 'following someone'. thanx girl~ (who I don't know actually;;)

My favorite view, Courtyard on lv2. umm...little mistake to get half disappeared man on the left side. but overall, I really liked this panorama. If user click the entrance of city rd, It appears byebye~ message. then appears new button go back to entrance.

[Unfortunately, my introductin has bit of problem. When user click the door, it should open new flash file(ground level view) within the iframe. But It opens in new window. I gave exactly same script to this button as other buttons in other flash.

But it only doens't work in this intro flash....weird. tried to solve in several times. but seriously doesn't work. So create another index.html file started with Gounrd level view. not so good. T_T]

Problem solving.

I don't think I have enough time to finish putting all my idea in final site..(I have studio final presentation on Tuesday. It's soooo tough...)
So I have to solve the problem in different way. I tried to modify actionscript into horizontal scrollbar. It's in the process and seems that I can solve it. But not enough time. I decided to use 'iframe' in html page to get horizontal scrollbar. and make panorama image into flash to make some objects which user can clikc to go other panoramic image flash. It would give me some flexibility to complete this flash.

Scrollbar in flash

I've researched some actionscripts for Scrollbar in Flash. I made it myself before but I totally forgot...another problem is i can't find horizontal scrollbar. I only could find vertical one as usual. I need horizontal scroll for panoramic view. I will try to modify some scripts into horizontal.

Photo. Done.

Finished to take all required photo for panoramic view. Now I have to generate them in panoramic image by Photoshop. Hmm, It would be bit hard. Cause When I took photos of each level, it was around....1~2pm. There were so many people and walking around. Some people standing in different photo at same time; cause they move around;;; It might be bit problem to make them in panorama....uh.....well. trying.

Photoshop CS2. You are the genious!!!!

In class today, Gianni gave me amazing technique which I can generate panoramic image A.U.T.O.M.A.T.I.C.A.L.L.Y in Photoshop CS2. OMG. It's so amazing. I thought that it's gonna take me sooo much time to make panoramic image in photoshop as manually. But this 'automerge' menu took me only 1 min to make this clear panoramic view.....OMG.

Now, it's all depends on my photographic techniques. haha......

Panorama. Yeah, that's it.

Previous image of my site was quite similar to my researched website(http://www.philbrown.bc.ca/). But I came up with another new idea.

I'm gonna use 'panorama' picture of each level of Wilkinson. Use may use scroll bar or designed flash navigation bar, whatever.. to look around the eash level. Little animation in previous idea would take me so long time to make and I think that panorama image would give much better impression of 'space' to users.

For panorama image, I heard that I have to use multiple shop..or something in camera. Or I have to take each photo of single part. like same angle, same height, just turn around 360degrees. haha;;;; I'm not really sure that I can do;; but I will try~

Even I already took sooooo many photos, I still don't get what picture I need for my website. I borrowed a camera from my friend who is studying photography. His camera is soooo professional. It is kind of hard to control this camera. Not only the idea, but the technical difficulties. Umm...I thought that I could get better photo if I use goooood camera, instead of my old sony. But I guess my sony may give me better picture...as my lack of photography skill T^T.. or I have to ask my frined to take photos for me=_=

forgot to say-

I forgot to say another reason to change my concpet.
In last wednesday class, Gianni talked about the contents of the site.I definately thought that it can be related to my personal site. like with some profile, portfolio, diary, stuff. but it was not.
It was more about the art rather than the text contents. Umm, because of my lack of English, I don't think that I could fully understand Gianni's explain. What I understood was that the site should have some kind of story or contains the theme of space instead of put the description of something related to 'space'. so whole site can be only combined with photos, images. or it also can be fully texted pages as long as it can effectively represent 'space' somehow. This is what I understood. (if it's not corret, would be bit problem...haha..XD)

But I realised that the contents of my previous concept was not suitable for this criteria. It was just a normal homepage, with just some little animationed flash menu. that flash gonna be just a layout of menu. nothing more, nothing less. So I decided to extend my concept bit more to make it more about the art rather than a content.

(hope that i understood correctly~ did I, Gianni??? T_T[cry])

Hand drawing for new proposal

I drew it yesterday but i couldn't upload it because my computer didn't allow me to use internet for a while yester. Anyway, it is new proposal. I know it's not that clear;; but i try to record visually what I have in my mind. There are other images I drew but they are worse than this;; so i don't wanna upload them.

I took some photo of wilkinson building for my background today. I just took them as a mock-up so they are not exactly what i want for my site. Also the weather was not very good to take light photo so it wouldn't give me suitable impression of my idea. But it would be much better to explain my idea with those photo than this unclear, bad quality hand-drawing. haha;;; I can't upload photos at the moment cause I can't use memory card in computer lab in uni. I will upload them when I go back home. Maybe really late night.

***USB cable of Digital camera doesn't work; I couldn't upload photo proposal. I asked my friend to fix the problem and he said, he would be available on Monday. I think I can post it on Monday afternoon. I will try to do make kind of finalised preliminary site before Wednesday and bring it to class and talk with Gianni.

Planning

As I changed my whole concept, I need to upload my new storyboard. But unfortunately, I don't have any photo of wilkilson building at the moment. I thought I have some in my labtop, but I guess I deleted them at last semester. So I decided to think storyflow first and try to take photo of where I need for my site.

I'm gonna post my new site concept proposal tomorrow.
I asked one of my friend who did photography as an elective last semester to lent his camera. I don't want to use my mobile phone camera to take photo to use for my site. haha -_-;
But I can use his camera on Saturday.

So,

Friday - I will post new proposal with how site gonna be flow within the flash movie by using illustration or hand drawing.. I'm not sure that my hand drawing may tell what I really want to be look like but i will try.

Saturday - I will post storyboard with some examples of actual photos. It will be more clear to express my new idea than a proposal with my hand drawing.


Hope that I can follow this plan.

Few more research

There were so many wonderful sites where I could strongly feel the theme of a 'space' whether it was their true theme or not. These are some of those:

generally, it is used as a layout of the site. main menus. images appears in the image frame.
it shows that 2D image also can achieve the 'space'.

-interesting and fun. full flash site as well. By using 2D photo of paper box, it effectively express small space. Image of two men also makes box as a 'space'. In each menu, those guys do different activities with different elements of interior. there are some little animations such as moving clocks, swinging airplane toy, moving bugs, etc. These little elements makes whole site more interesting and gives a life on these two man and the space in the box.

Change Point!

I'm not sure that I can change some concept at this stage. I know that it is kind of late decision along the schedule of the course. But I feel that I can do something more interesting and be encouraged to do more work because finally I have strong image of my final project site in my mind now.

I'm also gonna keep my preliminary idea of using symbol of person in my new site.
That person was represented 'you' (user) in my mind area. But in my new site, it's gonna be myself. I want to express my daily life in the Wilkinson building by using similar elements of my research site(posted below). As I'm not an advanced user of actionscript of flash, I don't think that I can achieve that amazingly dynamic and great impression of that site, but i will try to make it with simple animation which I already know how I can achieve by tools and basic actionscripts, and photo of inside of wilkinson building where can effectively show my footpath of during the day.

Research

I found this site from netdiver.net where is the one of the famous design site. I concentrated on flashware categories and I could see so many interesting and amazing works in there. But I was especially interested on this web site. (http://www.philbrown.bc.ca/). This full flash homepage was nominated on the site of 2002.

As this site is made of full flash, everything works really dynamically and keep doing something. Major theme is an airport and a 'person' moves into different area of airport. There are only really simple animations there. black symbol of people just moves from one point to another point. people itself doesn't have any small reactions except small orange 'speak box'. Sound of some part of japanese instruction of airport gives you stronger feeling of atmosphere than just some airport symbols such as airplane, seatbelts and big travel bag.

One of the major reason that I was interested in this site was simple user interactive flow system. Everything work in same time and user feels that they are watching an full animation movie. But it needs to be clicked by user at important part to keep going on. No need to think much, but it just attract people effectively to follow and concentrate on the animation. Instead of just showing what they want to show, it ask user to participate in it.
After I've seen this site, I realised that I was too much stuck on my preliminary concept. I wanted to use black people symbol to make a space of my mind somehow to show different aspect of my mind. I was keep thought that I'm gonna use only black and white to make it simple and clear to emphasis 2D space. However, I changed my mind. This site also used many simple black symbols in it and also used realistic photos and sounds which help this site make more realistic atmosphere. I think it makes a real 'space'.
